# Can I get the floor sofa in a fabric other than corduroy?

*Corduroy is where the floor sofa starts, not where it has to stay. These are the follow-ups buyers actually sent, in the order they tend to arrive.*

Also asked as: A not-corduroy fabric for the couch?; Regular velvet without the corduroy?

> **The quick answer:** Yes: corduroy is only the standard, and the modular and teddy floor sofas, the pouf sofa and IKEA Hemnes daybed covers can all be made in velvet, smooth soft fabric, linen, canvas-weave linen or a washable white canvas. Pick from the charts the workshop sends and write the fabric and color in the Personalization box.

## Key facts

- The standard floor sofa fabric is corduroy.
- Other options: velvet (plain and printed), smooth soft fabric, linen, canvas-weave linen and a washable white canvas.
- Soft fabric comes in plain colors such as navy, emerald and tobacco.
- Write the fabric and color in the Personalization box when you order.
- Forest green velvet cost nothing extra.
- Some modular models have fixed sizes, but the fabric can always be changed.
- The teddy sofa is not made in stripes or with tufting, and leather is no longer offered.
- The standard sofa corduroy comes in about 9-10 colors; there is no black, maroon, fuchsia, lilac or lavender corduroy.
- Fabric swatches, about 4 x 4 to 6 x 6 in (10 x 10 to 15 x 15 cm), can be ordered before you choose.
- Removable sofa covers machine wash at up to 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle; the non-slip bottom panel is wiped clean, not washed.

## “Does it have to be corduroy?”

No. [Corduroy](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/) is the standard, and a handsome one: its wale catches light in fine ridges, like a plowed field at dusk. But the modular and teddy floor sofas, the pouf sofa and the daybed covers can all be made in other cloth. Choose from the charts the workshop sends, then write the fabric and color in the Personalization box.

Some modular models come in fixed sizes. The fabric, my friends, can always change.

## “Forest green velvet? Maroon? Black?”

Yes to all three. The velvet range runs from a deep forest green through maroon and purple to black, with printed velvets too. Velvet pools light in its folds and glows along the edges. When one buyer swapped corduroy for forest green velvet, it cost nothing extra. Maroon also comes in soft fabric, if you want the color without the pile. See the [velvet swatches](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/velvet/).

## “Something smooth, with no texture at all?”

Then the soft fabric range: plain, even navy, emerald and tobacco. For a matte, drier hand there is linen, a canvas-weave linen, or a washable white canvas. The Hemnes daybed cover with round backrests comes in linen too; see the [Hemnes daybed covers](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/ikea-hemnes-daybed-covers/).

## Where the fabric switch stops

- ✗ No stripes on the teddy floor sofa.
- ✗ No tufting on the teddy shape.
- ✗ No leather; it is no longer offered.
- ✗ No size change on fixed-size modular models, though their fabric can change.

> A floor sofa doesn't have to be corduroy: the same modular and teddy shapes are made in velvet, linen, smooth soft fabric or washable white canvas.

> **Tailor's margin:** On the fabric charts, the code prefix names the cloth: L is linen, 100s are velvet, 900s are soft fabric and COR is corduroy.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can the modular sofa come in cream corduroy, or in forest green velvet instead?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Choose from the colors on the product page or write the fabric color in the personalization section. Forest green velvet cost nothing extra.

**A common question:** Do you make this sofa in maroon velvet, or in leather?

**The workshop's answer:** Maroon comes in both the velvet and the soft fabric ranges, and the fabric charts are sent on request. Leather is no longer offered.

**A common question:** Is the Hemnes daybed cover with round backrests available in linen?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. It can be made in linen, in any color from the linen chart.

**A common question:** Can the teddy floor sofa be made in velvet, linen or a print?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. There is a velvet color chart, two linen lines and printed velvets, but no stripes, and the teddy shape can't be tufted.

## Questions buyers ask next

### What are the velvet floor sofa covers made of?

The velvet replacement covers are 100% polyester, and the corner teddy sofa's standard fabric is corduroy. Neither contains hemp, whatever an older listing said.

### Can I order a spare floor sofa cover in a second color?

Yes. Spare covers can be ordered in a different color from the first set. Pick the code from the fabric charts and give the size of each piece.

### Can each piece of a floor sofa be a different color?

Yes. On the teddy floor sofas, colors can be mixed piece by piece. Write which piece gets which fabric code in the Personalization box.
