# Are the floor sofa covers removable and machine washable?

*Corduroy holds light in its ribs, and it holds a juice stain just as faithfully. The good news: every cover comes off.*

Also asked as: Do the covers unzip to be washed?; Can I wash the covers? There are stains

> **The quick answer:** Yes, every floor sofa cover unzips, comes off and machine washes at 86°F (30°C) max on a gentle cycle. The same goes for the pouf and the bean-bag sofa. Take off the white non-slip bottom piece first, because it must not go in the machine. Spare cover sets are sold, and the shop sends a video if a cover fights you going back on.

## “Do the covers really unzip?”

All of them. Every cover on the [modular floor sofa](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/), the pouf and the bean-bag sofa has a zipper and comes off whole.

The corduroy is 100% polyester plush, the soft-ribbed kind that turns from honey to toffee as the light moves across it, in fabrics from a mill certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (03.T.3239). The [corduroy page](https://cushionguide.com/fabrics/corduroy/) of the Swatch Library shows the full range of colors.

## “There are stains. What temperature?”

86°F (30°C) at most, on a gentle cycle. Between washes, the fabric spot-cleans easily, so a small mark rarely needs the machine.

Before anything goes in, unzip and remove the white [non-slip base](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#non-slip-base) piece. It must not be machine washed; wipe it by hand instead. The [cover washing Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/how-to-wash-cushion-covers/) walks through the rest.

## “I washed it and now it won't go back on”

Ask for the video. The shop sends one that shows how to ease a cover back over its cushion.

If a cover truly won't zip, look at what went through the wash with it. At 86°F (30°C) gentle the covers don't shrink; covers that won't close usually mean the non-slip bottom pieces were washed or dried. A spare cover set keeps the sofa dressed on wash day, and the [replacement covers Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/floor-sofa-replacement-covers/) explains ordering one. What color did you choose, my friends?

> **Tailor's margin:** Floor sofa covers wash at 86°F (30°C) on a gentle cycle, but the white non-slip bottom piece comes off first and never goes in the machine.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can the covers be washed, and at what temperature?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. They come off with zippers and machine wash at 86°F (30°C) max.

**A common question:** Does every sofa cover come off for the washing machine?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Every cover comes off and can be machine washed when needed, and the fabric is easy to spot-clean as well.

**A common question:** If I take the covers off, will I manage to get them back on?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The covers zip off and wash, and the shop sends a video if you need help putting one back on.

**A common question:** What are the covers made of, and can they be washed?

**The workshop's answer:** The covers have zippers and come off for washing on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle. They're 100% polyester plush corduroy, in fabrics from a mill certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (03.T.3239).

**A common question:** Can the white non-slip bottom go in the wash too?

**The workshop's answer:** No. Unzip and remove it first, wash only the colored cover at 86°F (30°C), and wipe the non-slip piece clean by hand. Early white dust shedding should stop over time.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Can I wash the whole floor sofa cushion, foam and all?

Wash only the cover. Fillings sit in their own inner liner, so the outer cover unzips and machine washes at 86°F (30°C) any time. Spot-clean the cushion itself; floor cushions filled with silicone fiber can be washed whole if really needed.

### Is velvet as washable as corduroy?

Yes. Velvet covers also unzip and machine wash at 86°F (30°C) max on a gentle cycle. Blot spills quickly with a dry cloth; the velvet has no stain-repellent coating, so washing the removable cover is its main protection.

### Why buy a spare floor sofa cover set?

So the sofa stays usable while one set is in the wash or drying. Spare cover sets are sold for the floor sofa, and a second set in another color changes the room without a new sofa.
