# Do ties cost extra on a custom cushion?

*Right, then. Ties are the cheapest insurance a bench cushion can buy, and most of the time they cost nothing at all. Here is how the back-and-forth usually goes.*

Also asked as: Is there an additional cost for ties?; Can you put ties on the two back corners?

> **The quick answer:** Cushion ties are often sewn on free, and on some orders they carry a small per-cushion charge. Either way, write the tie request and your exact cushion size in the Add Personalization box so it's in your quote before production. If a charge applies, the workshop sends a separate extra-payment link for the difference. Ties can match the cushion fabric or the piping.

## Key facts

- Ties are often added free of charge.
- Some orders carry a small per-cushion charge for ties.
- Any tie charge is paid through a separate extra-payment link.
- Tie requests go in Add Personalization with your exact cushion size.
- Ties can match the cushion fabric or the contrast piping.
- You can set placement, e.g. 6 in (15 cm) in from each short end.
- Standard bench cushions run 2 to 5 in (5 to 12.5 cm) thick, and ties sew into the seams at any of those thicknesses.
- Outdoor cushion quotes assume a 4 in (10 cm) thickness; ties go on the back, corners or sides.

## “So, do the ties cost extra or not?”

Often, no. On [bench cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/) the workshop regularly sews ties onto the two back corners free of charge, and the same goes for ties on the back of chair pads. On other orders, ties carry a small per-cushion charge. I won't pretend there's one rule, because past orders show both answers.

What decides it is the order itself. So ask for the ties in writing and let the quote speak. Either way, the tie request is settled in your quote before production starts, not discovered on your doorstep.

## “I can't see a tie option anywhere. Where does it go?”

1. **Open Add Personalization**: Ties don't need their own button. Write 'ties' in the Add Personalization box, next to your exact length, depth and thickness.
2. **Say where they go**: Two back corners, the back of a chair pad, or a measured spot such as 6 in (15 cm) in from each short end.
3. **Pick the tie fabric**: Matching the cushion so they disappear, or matching a contrast piping so they read as a detail.
4. **Watch for a link**: If ties carry a charge on your order, a separate extra-payment link arrives for the difference before production.

## “And on the patio, where the wind gets a vote?”

[Outdoor cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/outdoor-cushions/) take ties too, including extra-long ones for windy spots, on the back, corners or sides. Note the positions in the order and add a quick sketch.

If the real trouble is a cushion that creeps forward, a [non-slip base](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#non-slip-base) is the other tool. It's optional, not standard, and its cost scales with cushion size. The [ties and non-slip Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/stop-bench-cushion-sliding-ties-nonslip/) weighs the two. How far does your cushion wander in a week, dear?

> **Tailor's margin:** Ties on a bench cushion go on the two back corners, or wherever you measure them, such as 6 in (15 cm) in from each short end.

> Cushion ties are often sewn on free; when an order carries a small per-cushion charge, it comes as a separate extra-payment link before production.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can you add ties so my cushion stays put on the bench, and how much extra is that?

**The workshop's answer:** On that order the ties were added free of charge. Mention them in the personalization note and say where you want them, for example 6 in (15 cm) in from each short end.

**A common question:** Could you put corner ties on my cushion?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. On that order the ties carried a small per-cushion charge, paid through a separate extra-payment link.

**A common question:** Can the ties go on the back corners so the cushion ties to the bench or chair?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Ties can be sewn on the back of chair pads or on the two back corners of a bench cushion, free of charge. Write the request with your exact size in Add Personalization.

**A common question:** Can outdoor cushions get ties so they don't blow off the chairs?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Ties, including extra-long ones for windy spots, go on the back, corners or sides of outdoor seat and back cushions. Note the positions in your order with a sketch; they're a small add-on or sometimes free.

**A common question:** Is a non-slip bottom included, or is that extra?

**The workshop's answer:** It's an optional add-on, not standard, and the cost scales with cushion size. Write 'non-slip base' and your exact size in personalization; it's included in your quote or the shop sends a link for the difference.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Will I be charged for ties without being told first?

No. A tie request written in Add Personalization is settled in your quote before production. If your order carries a tie charge, it arrives as a separate extra-payment link that you pay yourself, so nothing is added silently.

### Do the ties have to match the cushion fabric?

No. Ties can be cut from the cushion fabric so they blend in, or from the same fabric as a contrast piping so they read as a deliberate detail. Say which one you want in the same personalization note as the tie positions.

### Are ties or a non-slip base better for a bench cushion that slides?

Ties anchor the back corners to something, such as bench legs, slats or a back rail, and are often free. A non-slip base grips the seat instead and is an optional add-on priced by cushion size. Either request goes in personalization with your exact size.
