# Which cushion fabric is closest to a deep red, burgundy or maroon?

*Reds drift on a screen. One buyer's first pick turned pink in the close-up. Check before you commit.*

Also asked as: I'm looking for a deep red.; Which red is closest to the red in our rug?

> **The quick answer:** For burgundy cushion fabric, look at 936 (burgundy) and 938, a very similar maroon that is also the dark red in the main listing photo. For a solid indoor red, 937 and 118; for the deepest red in linen, L52. Tell the workshop if the cushion lives indoors or out, and if you want a solid or a pattern, then ask for close-ups.

## Key facts

- 936 is burgundy and 938 a very similar maroon.
- 938 is the dark red in the main listing photo and can be ordered though it isn't on the swatch card.
- 937 and 118 are solid indoor reds.
- Linen L52 is the closest to a deep red.
- For contrast piping, the L linen fabrics are the better fit.
- Indoor and outdoor fabrics are on separate charts.
- Fabric swatches are palm-sized, about 4 x 4 to 6 x 6 in, and usually reach the US in 3-5 days.
- The outdoor range has about 150-200 colors on its own charts, separate from the indoor reds.
- Zippered covers wash at up to 86°F (30°C), turned inside out, on a gentle cycle.

## The red shortlist, by code

- ✓ 936: burgundy, the one in the listing photos.
- ✓ 938: a very similar maroon, and the dark red in the main photo. Not on the swatch card, still orderable.
- ✓ 937 and 118: solid indoor reds.
- ✓ L52: the deepest red in linen, and the L fabrics suit contrast piping.
- ✓ 916 with 936 piping: the window seat pairing in one of the photos.

## Before you ask for a red

1. Indoors or outdoors? The fabrics sit on separate charts.
2. Solid or pattern? That decides which chart gets searched.
3. Send a screenshot of the cushion you like, and the workshop names the code.
4. Ask for close-up photos of your pick.
5. Choose cream or beige piping from the same chart, so the tones work together.

## The red that went pink

A buyer messaged the workshop chasing a deep red. The first code looked right in the listing. In the close-up photos it read pinker. The workshop pointed to linen L52 as the closest to a true deep red, and added that the L fabrics are the better fit for contrast piping. The listing's dark red turned out to be 938, which can be ordered even though it isn't on the swatch card.

## Why reds need a second look

Weather changes a red. So does a phone camera. The same fabric can read brick in the morning and berry at dusk, and a thumbnail picks whichever it likes.

So narrow it the way the workshop does: indoor or outdoor first, solid or pattern second, then close-ups. For a [bench cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/) matched to a rug, the workshop suggested 937 and 118 with cream or beige [contrast piping](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#contrast-piping) from the same chart. The [screen vs daylight Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-color-screen-vs-daylight/) explains the drift, and [fabric swatches](https://cushionguide.com/guides/fabric-swatches-before-ordering/) end the argument.

What's the red you're chasing, friend: a rug, a door, a boat hull?

> **Tailor's margin:** A red that looks right in a listing thumbnail can turn pinker in a close-up, so ask for close-up photos of the fabric code first.

> Burgundy cushion fabric runs from 936 burgundy to 938 maroon, and linen L52 is the deepest red. Indoor and outdoor reds sit on separate charts.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can you recommend a red that matches the red in my rug?

**The workshop's answer:** First the workshop asks if the cushion is for indoor or outdoor use, and if you want a solid or a pattern, so it looks in the right fabric family. For an indoor solid it suggested 937 and 118, with cream or beige piping from the same chart so the tones work together.

**A common question:** Which fabric code comes closest to a deep red?

**The workshop's answer:** L52 is closest to a deep red; the first choice turned out pinker in the close-ups. For contrast piping, the L fabrics are the better fit. The dark red in the main listing photo is 938, which you can order even though it isn't on the swatch card.

**A common question:** What code is the burgundy cushion in your photos?

**The workshop's answer:** Send a screenshot and the workshop names the code. The burgundy is 936 and 938 is a very similar maroon; the orange is linen L-53, and one window seat photo is 916 with 936 piping.

**A common question:** Which striped fabric is raspberry, burgundy or a true red?

**The workshop's answer:** N17 is a vivid raspberry, N18 a muted dusty berry, N14 a deeper burgundy red and N15 a bright true red. Ask for finished-cushion photos to compare.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Is there a striped option in burgundy?

Yes. In the striped range, N14 is the deeper burgundy red and N15 a bright true red, while N17 and N18 lean raspberry and dusty berry. Photos of finished striped cushions help you compare them side by side.

### What piping suits a solid red cushion?

For an indoor solid red such as 937 or 118, the workshop suggests cream or beige piping from the same chart so the tones work together. If you want red as the contrast piping itself, the L linen fabrics are the better fit.

### Can I order a red that isn't on the swatch card?

Sometimes. 938, the dark red in the main listing photo, can be ordered even though it isn't on the card. Send a screenshot of the cushion you like and the workshop tells you the code.
