# How much does a custom kitchen banquette or breakfast nook cushion cost?

*A long bench makes folks nervous about the bill. Most of the time it needn't. Here are three kitchen nooks from past orders and how each one was priced.*

Also asked as: price a cushion for our kitchen bench; very long bench cushion

> **The quick answer:** A custom banquette cushion is priced by size on the listing, like any bench cushion, even on a very long run: a 21 × 138⅝ × 2 in (53 × 352 × 5 cm) seat with double piping went at the regular listing price. Fractional-inch sizes are fine, and one tufted nook set took 7 business days to make plus 3 to 5 days' delivery.

## Key facts

- Banquette cushions are priced by size on the listing, like any bench cushion.
- A 138⅝ in (352 cm) cushion with double piping and a long-side zipper was made at the regular listing price.
- Fractional-inch sizes such as 65⅛ in and 56¼ in are accepted.
- Tufted nook sets can be sent as one custom order link.
- One custom tufted nook set took 7 business days to make, plus 3 to 5 business days' delivery; ask for current timing with your quote.
- Built-in replacements are quoted as a set, with backs sized to the remaining height; very long runs can be split into two equal sections.

## First question: “What does a bench this long cost?”

The same as any [banquette cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/banquette-cushions/) of its size. One kitchen bench in the US ran 138⅝ in (352 cm), 21 in (53 cm) deep, and wanted only 2 in (5 cm) of cushion in a special fabric, with [double piping](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#double-piping) and a zipper down the long side. It went at the regular listing price. Length is priced as size, nothing more.

A seam is a promise, and a seam that long had better be straight. Write the color codes and the zipper side in the order's personalization note.

## Three tufted cushions for a breakfast nook, in odd fractions

The nook needed three seats: 65⅛ × 17 in, 56¼ × 17 in and 91 × 17 in (165 × 43, 143 × 43 and 231 × 43 cm). French-style tufted linen, in a dried-rose color. Nobody blinked at the fractions. The three were priced as a set and sent as one custom order link. Tufting is hand work. That set was quoted at 7 business days at the table, then 3 to 5 business days on the road.

## Follow-up: “Why is a full built-in set such a big spend?”

Because it is a whole set. Another buyer in the US replaced the cushions on two built-in runs, 80 in and 139 in (203 and 353 cm), each 22½ in (57 cm) deep, with backs sized to the height left above the seat. The workshop quoted seats and backs together and came down on the total.

On a run that long, ask about [splitting it into two equal sections](https://cushionguide.com/guides/long-bench-cushion-one-piece-or-two/). How long is your bench, wall to wall?

> A banquette cushion is priced by its size, not by how long the bench looks: a 138 in kitchen cushion with double piping went at the regular listing price.

> **Tailor's margin:** Write the zipper side and the color codes in the order's personalization note. A long banquette cushion should be cut from your note, never guessed.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Why do replacement cushions for our built-in bench cost so much?

**The workshop's answer:** Everything is handmade with good materials, and seats plus backs for two long runs add up. The workshop quoted the set together and came down on the total; very long runs can also be split into two equal sections.

**A common question:** Why does a tufted cushion cost more than a plain foam one?

**The workshop's answer:** Tufting is done fully by hand, so a tufted cushion costs noticeably more than the same size in plain foam; the quote shows the difference. A non-tufted foam cushion is the cheaper option.

**A common question:** Will the sale price still be there if I order in a week or two?

**The workshop's answer:** It depends on the sale, and sales are the workshop's to set, not this site's. If you're waiting on samples, say so when you ask for your quote; in past cases buyers who wrote before a sale ended were still given the sale price.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Does a very long banquette cushion cost extra beyond its size?

Not in past orders. A 138⅝ in (352 cm) cushion went at the regular listing price for its size, in a special fabric with double piping.

### Can I order a banquette cushion in eighth-inch sizes?

Yes. Fractional-inch sizes are accepted: nook cushions at 65⅛ in and 56¼ in long were cut to exactly those numbers. Measure carefully, because the cushion is made to what you write.

### How long do tufted breakfast nook cushions take?

One custom tufted nook set took 7 business days to make, then 3 to 5 business days' delivery. Every tuft is set fully by hand, so confirm the current timing in writing when you order.

### Is it cheaper to make banquette cushions myself?

Sometimes, but by less than people expect. One homeowner who upholstered foam over thin plywood sections spent only modestly less than a quote for welted custom cushions. DIY board cushions let storage lids open and don't move, but their fabric is stapled on, so it can't be removed and washed, and there's no piping. Price your foam and fabric before deciding.
