# Are your cushions only 4 inches thick, or can I get 2 or 3 inches?

*Four inches is what the listing photos show. It is one row on a menu of four, and the menu has a side door for odd numbers.*

Also asked as: Are your cushions only sold in 4 inch thickness?; Do you do thinner, like 2 inch high?

> **The quick answer:** No, 4 in is not the only thickness: the standard menu offers 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 cm). Choose it in the thickness option, or write it in Add Personalization if a listing stops at 4 in. Most buyers pick 3 or 4 in, and 2.5 in and 6 in have been made on request.

## Key facts

- Standard thickness options are 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 cm).
- Some listings, such as the rectangle cushion, show only 2, 3 or 4 in.
- Thickness is chosen in the thickness option or written in Add Personalization.
- The listing photos show 4 in (10 cm) cushions.
- Most buyers choose 3 or 4 in.
- 2.5 in (about 6.5 cm) has been made on request.
- 6 in (15 cm) is possible: write it in personalization and message the shop after ordering.

## The thickness menu, in both units

| Thickness | Metric listing | How it reads | Who picks it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 in | 2 in (5 cm) | A slim pad | Popular for a bench beside a dining table |
| 3 in | 3 in (7.5 cm) | The neat middle ground | One of the two most-ordered; also popular at dining benches |
| 4 in | 4 in (10 cm) | Plumper; what the listing photos show | One of the two most-ordered |
| 5 in | 5 in (12.5 cm) | The deepest standard option | Same foam as 4 in, in a taller profile |
| 2.5 in or 6 in | About 2½ or 6 in (6.5 or 15 cm) | Off the menu | Made on request |

## Ordering a thickness the menu doesn't show

Most listings carry a thickness option; pick it after you choose your size. Some, like the rectangle cushion, stop at 2, 3 or 4 in. If yours does, or a listing is fixed at 4 in, write the number you want in Add Personalization and it's made that way.

Off-menu numbers travel the same road. A 2.5 in cushion has been made on request. For 6 in (15 cm), write it in personalization, then message the shop after ordering. Custom orders have gone well past the menu, too: 3/4 in (2 cm) window seats, 3 in (8 cm) backs, 4.75 in (12 cm) and 8 in (20 cm) seats on [bench cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/bench-cushions/) and beyond.

## Why 4 and 5 in sit almost the same

Here's the part that surprises people, partner. All four standard thicknesses use the same firm, about 2 lb/ft³ (32 kg/m³) foam, so a 5 in cushion isn't softer than a 4 in one; it's taller. Between 4 and 5 in, the difference is mostly the look. Between 2 and 4 in, it's real: one is a slim pad, the other a proper seat.

On price, 2, 3 and 4 in have been quoted the same for a given size. Six inches has been quoted both at the standard price and with a surcharge, so confirm it before you order.

Thickness also moves your seat height. Run the numbers in the [seat height calculator](https://cushionguide.com/studio/seat-height-calculator/) and read the [window seat thickness Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/window-seat-cushion-thickness/). What's under the cushion now, and how tall is the table next to it?

> **Tailor's margin:** For a bench beside a dining table, 2 in (5 cm) or 3 in (7.5 cm) is the popular cushion thickness; 4 in is what the listing photos show.

> Cushion thickness isn't locked at 4 in: the standard menu runs 2, 3, 4 and 5 in, and 2.5 or 6 in can be made on request.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Are your cushions only 4 inches thick, or can I get them thinner, like 2 inches?

**The workshop's answer:** Four thicknesses are standard: 2, 3, 4 and 5 in (5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5 cm on metric listings). Choose it in the thickness option, or in Add Personalization after selecting your size. The listing photos show 4 in (10 cm) cushions, and most buyers choose 3 or 4 in.

**A common question:** Which thicknesses can I order, and does a thinner cushion cost less?

**The workshop's answer:** You choose the thickness when ordering: 2 in (5 cm), 3, 4 and 5 in are standard, 2.5 in has been made on request, and 6 in is possible if you write it in personalization and message the shop after ordering. On that quote, thickness didn't change the price for a given size. Beside a dining table, 2 or 3 in are the popular picks.

**A common question:** Do you make cushions thinner than 2 in or thicker than 5 in?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, any thickness is possible; mention it in the note. Custom orders have included 3/4 in (2 cm) window seats, 3 in (8 cm) backs, 4.75 in (12 cm) and 8 in (20 cm) seats, and 10.5 in (27 cm) pillows.

**A common question:** Can the 4 in bench cushion be made 2 in thick instead?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Place the order and write in personalization that you want 2 in thickness. The corduroy and linen bench cushions and the tufted floor cushion are 4 in as standard, and that can be changed to suit you.

## Questions buyers ask next

### What's the thickest custom cushion you can make?

Standard options top out at 5 in (12.5 cm), with 6 in (15 cm) on request, but custom cushions have gone up to about 15.5 in (40 cm). For about 10 in (25 cm), order two 5 in (12.5 cm) cushions and note that you want one piece, or ask for a custom link.

### My floor sofa sits too low. Will a thicker layer raise it?

Yes. The floor sofa seat is about 13.5-14.5 in (34-37 cm) high. Stack an extra seat cushion or base mattress, or add a custom 4-5 in (10-12.5 cm) layer, to reach about 19 in (48 cm). Floor sofas stay low by design.

### Can I get a softer or firmer seat instead of a thicker one?

Standard seats are firm high-density foam. On floor sofas, a puffier, softer filling can be requested for seats and backrests, and a firmer seat cushion is available for users over 220 lb (100 kg).
