# Can I choose where the cushion handle goes, or leave it off?

*A handle is a small thing until it faces the dining room. Here is how the workshop places one, doubles it, or leaves it off altogether.*

Also asked as: Is it possible not to put the handle on?; Can you put the handle on the shorter side?

> **The quick answer:** Yes, a cushion can be made without a handle: floor and window-seat cushions come with one carry handle on one side as standard, but you can choose which side it goes on, add handles on both sides or more, or leave handles off entirely. Cushions can also be made without the shop's logo, with or without handles, which suits a visible dining bench.

## Key facts

- Floor and window-seat cushions come with one carry handle on one side as standard.
- You choose which side the handle goes on, such as a shorter 45 in (115 cm) side.
- Extra handles, on both sides or more, can be added on request.
- Handles can be left off completely.
- Cushions can be made without the shop's logo, with or without handles.
- Floor cushions with a carry handle range from about 4-5 in (10-12 cm) thick for tufted styles to 12 in (30 cm) for deep-base styles.

## Where can the carry handle go on a floor cushion?

| Option | What you get | Where it earns its keep |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | One carry handle on one side | Floor cushions that move around the room |
| Handle on a side you pick | One handle, placed where you ask, such as a short end | Window seats where only one end is within reach |
| Two or more handles | Handles on both sides, or more, on request | Big floor cushions that get carried often |
| No handle, no logo | Clean sides with nothing stitched on | A dining bench or built-in seat in plain view |

## Why the side matters more than the handle

My friend, I've lifted a good many cushions out of window seats, and the handle always tells me whether somebody thought ahead. On a [window seat cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/window-seat-cushions/) the long front edge faces the room. Put the handle there and it's the first thing a guest sees.

Put it on a short end instead, say a 41 in (104 cm) side, and it's right where your hand goes when you lift the cushion off a [storage bench lid](https://cushionguide.com/guides/storage-bench-cushion-hinged-lid/). On [floor cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/floor-cushions/) that get dragged to the TV and back, two handles can make sense. A seam is a promise, and so is every piece of hardware you sew into one.

## Put it in the order note

- ✓ Say 'no handle' in plain words, or name the side: 'handle on the 41 in end'.
- ✓ Want two? Write 'handles on both short sides'.
- ✓ Add 'no logo' if the cushion will face guests.
- ✓ Keep it all in one personalization note; the [personalization Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-personalization-note/) shows how.

> **Tailor's margin:** A cushion handle belongs on the side you reach, not the side guests see; on a window seat that usually means a short end.

> One carry handle is standard, but a cushion can have handles on both sides, one on a chosen side, or no handle and no logo at all.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Could you leave the handle off my floor cushion?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Floor cushions can be made with no handle at all.

**A common question:** Does the cushion come with a handle, and can it go on a particular side?

**The workshop's answer:** It comes with one handle, and the shop places it where you ask, such as the shorter 45 in (115 cm) side. More handles can be added on request.

**A common question:** Can I get the cushion with no handles, or with handles but no logo?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes to both. Handles can be left off on request, and cushions can be made with handles but without the logo.

**A common question:** The bench sits in plain view. Can I skip the handle there?

**The workshop's answer:** Floor cushions have a carry handle on one side, and the shop can put handles on both sides or leave them off completely, for example no handle and no logo on a visible dining bench. You can also choose the side, such as the 41 in (104 cm) end.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Which cushions come with a handle as standard?

Floor cushions and window-seat cushions come with one carry handle on one side. If you want it moved, doubled or removed, write that in your order note when you buy, with the side named in inches.

### Is the shop's logo always on the cushion?

No. Cushions can be made without the shop's logo, either with handles or without them. Buyers ask for this most on benches and window seats that sit in full view of the room.

### Can a large floor cushion have handles at both ends?

Yes. Beyond the one standard handle, handles on both sides, or more, can be added on request. Write how many you want and which sides in the personalization note when you order.
