# Can I change the size or thickness after I've ordered?

*Wrong number on the order form? It happens to the best of us, me included. The fix is simple as long as the scissors haven't moved.*

Also asked as: I ordered 3 inch but need 2 inch; I made a mistake in the dimensions

> **The quick answer:** Yes, you can change a cushion's size or thickness after ordering, as long as production hasn't started and the fabric hasn't been cut. Message the corrected measurements or sketch; the workshop updates the order, pauses production if needed, and confirms the new specification in writing. Changes that don't alter the price cost nothing.

## Key facts

- Size and thickness changes are accepted until production starts.
- No changes are possible once the fabric has been cut.
- Production can be paused while you send a new sketch or size.
- The workshop sends back the updated specification; check it line by line.
- Changes are free when the price doesn't change.
- Ties on all four corners have been added after ordering.
- A missed post-purchase change led to a remake that took 5-6 extra days.

## The deadline is the first cut

The rule is short: until the fabric is cut, the order is still paper. Message the corrected measurements, thickness or sketch, and the workshop updates the order, tells the tailor right away and pauses production if it has to. You get the new specification back to check. If the price doesn't change, neither does your bill.

I've miswritten a length myself, so no judgment here. But I learned to measure the bench, not the cushion you used to have. Run the tape again before you send the correction: length, depth and thickness, in inches. [Cushion measurements explained](https://cushionguide.com/guides/cushion-measurements-length-depth-thickness/) walks through all three, and [how to measure a bench](https://cushionguide.com/guides/how-to-measure-bench-for-cushion/) covers the rest.

Then read the confirmation, dear. One size update was once missed and the cushion was made at the original size. The workshop offered a remake, which took 5-6 extra days. A second look at the confirmation would have caught it. If it does go wrong, [remakes for a wrong size or color](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-remake-wrong-size-color/) explains what happens next.

## Changes that went through after checkout

| What changed | From | To |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 3 in | 2 in |
| A seat dimension | 24 1/2 in | 24 in |
| Depth | As ordered | 19.75 in, corrected |
| Outdoor cushion | 45 x 39 in | 52 x 28 in, no price difference |
| Floor sofa | Standard 39 x 79 in | 78 x 36 x 14 in |
| Ties | None | All four corners |

## Changing a size without a mix-up

1. **Write the moment you notice**: Changes are only possible before the fabric is cut, so every hour counts.
2. **Send the whole corrected spec**: Give length, depth and thickness, not just the one number that changed. For beveled or shaped seats, add a sketch.
3. **Wait for the confirmation**: The workshop sends back the new specification. Check it line by line.
4. **Settle any difference**: If the new size is bigger, pay the difference through a payment link; if it's smaller, the difference comes back to you.

> **Tailor's margin:** Send the whole corrected cushion size, not one number: length, depth and thickness in inches, plus a sketch for any beveled or shaped seat.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can I change the thickness or size after I've placed the order?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, before production. Thickness from 3 in to 2 in, a size from 24 1/2 in to 24 in, and swapped sample codes have all been updated at no charge. Message as early as you can.

**A common question:** I sent the wrong dimensions. Can you change them?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, as long as the fabric hasn't been cut. An outdoor order was updated from 45 x 39 in to 52 x 28 in with no price difference.

**A common question:** Can I add ties or correct a size after ordering?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, as long as production hasn't moved ahead. A cushion was corrected from 18 x 47.25 in to 15.5 x 47 in (46 x 120 cm to 39.5 x 119.5 cm), and ties were added on all four corners. Addresses and phone numbers can also be updated if you message quickly.

**A common question:** Can you hold production while I redraw a corner?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. The workshop pauses production if needed, for example while waiting for a new corner sketch, and has also changed a thickness to 2 in and resized a cushion to 35.5 x 35.5 in (90 x 90 cm).

**A common question:** I ordered the wrong size. Do I pay more if the right one is bigger?

**The workshop's answer:** There's no need to cancel. Before production the cushion is made at the right size: you pay only the difference through a payment link if it's bigger, or get the difference back if it's smaller.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Can I cancel a custom-size cushion once it's in production?

Not with a guaranteed full refund. Changes and cancellation are possible before production starts; once a custom piece is in production it is made only for you. In past cases the workshop refunded part of the price, minus material and production costs, or held the order to ship later instead. Ask the workshop what applies to yours.

### Can the workshop wait until I have final measurements?

Often, yes: production has been paused while a buyer confirmed a color or sent final measurements, and shipping has been held until a buyer moved. Measurements can be updated any time before the fabric is cut.

### I picked the wrong color for my floor sofa. Is it too late?

Usually not, until the sofa ships. Send the exact color name or number from the chart and the workshop checks with production. If it's already packed, it ships as ordered, and extra covers are the fix.
