# Can you change the delivery address after my order has shipped?

*Once a parcel is moving, friend, it sails on the carrier's charts, not ours. The workshop can ask. You, holding the tracking number, have the stronger hand.*

Also asked as: deliver to a new address; incorrect zip code on the order

> **The quick answer:** Once a package is in transit, the workshop can't change the delivery address itself; it can only ask the carrier, and a redirect isn't guaranteed. Contact FedEx or UPS yourself with the tracking number to reroute or collect, and move fast, because carriers hold parcels only for a limited time. Before paying, check the address and ZIP code.

## Key facts

- Once a package is in transit, the workshop can't change the address itself.
- The workshop can email the carrier with a corrected address and keep following up, but can't promise a redirect.
- UPS lets the recipient register with its delivery-management service to request the change.
- With FedEx, contact them with the tracking number to reroute or pick up the parcel.
- Carriers hold undelivered parcels only for a limited time.
- If the workshop still has the parcel, it ships to the corrected address.
- A floor sofa travels as roll packs of about 45 x 12 x 12 in and 18 to 33 lb (8 to 15 kg) each, and each parcel has its own tracking number.
- Vacuum-packed foam shouldn't stay compressed more than 2 to 3 weeks, so a parcel stuck at a depot is worth chasing the same day.

## The order of operations

1. **Message the workshop first**: If the parcel hasn't shipped, the corrected address is used. Changing your account profile doesn't change an order already placed.
2. **Call the carrier with the tracking number**: FedEx can reroute the parcel or hold it for you to collect.
3. **On UPS, register as the recipient**: If UPS says only the sender can change it, UPS has advised registering with its delivery-management service to request the change yourself.
4. **Move the same day**: Carriers hold a parcel only for a limited time. After failed attempts it goes back to the sender, and sending it out again costs extra.

## When the redirect doesn't take

The workshop will email the carrier with the new address and keep following up. That is asking, not steering. In one case FedEx still delivered to the first address and shared a delivery photo, so at least everyone knew which porch to check. Rain doesn't negotiate, and neither does a label once it's scanned.

## Check the address and ZIP code before you pay

Read the shipping address twice and the ZIP code a third time; old addresses hide in saved accounts. A [floor sofa](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/modular-floor-sofas/) is a big box to land on the wrong step. When it does reach you, [unpack it with patience](https://cushionguide.com/guides/vacuum-packed-cushion-first-72-hours/). Which address is saved on your account right now?

> **Tailor's margin:** Check the ZIP code before you pay for a custom cushion. Once a parcel is in transit, only the carrier can move it, and not always.

> A shipped package goes where the label says unless the carrier agrees otherwise. Call FedEx or UPS with your tracking number the same day.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can I change my delivery address now that the order has shipped?

**The workshop's answer:** Once a package is in transit the workshop can't change the address. Contact FedEx directly with the tracking number to reroute or pick up, and act quickly, because carriers only hold packages for a limited time.

**A common question:** UPS says only the sender can change the address. What can I do?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop emailed the corrected address to the carrier and kept following up. UPS advised that the recipient can register with its delivery-management service and request the change directly.

**A common question:** Will the courier actually redirect my parcel if you ask?

**The workshop's answer:** The workshop can request an address update, but it isn't guaranteed. In one case FedEx still delivered to the first address and shared a delivery photo.

**A common question:** I typed the wrong address and it hasn't shipped yet. Can you fix it?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, before it ships: message the correct address right away. Updating your account profile doesn't change the order. After dispatch, the carrier has to be asked, and a change isn't guaranteed.

## Questions buyers ask next

### What happens if FedEx can't deliver to the old address?

Call your local FedEx or UPS with the tracking number right away to fix the address or rebook, and tell the workshop. After failed attempts the parcel goes back to the sender, and sending it again costs extra.

### Can I pick the parcel up instead of redirecting it?

With FedEx, yes: contact them with the tracking number and ask to collect it. Do it quickly, since carriers hold undelivered parcels only for a limited time before they are returned.

### Can the workshop show me where the parcel was left?

It can pass on a carrier's delivery photo. In one case FedEx delivered to the first address despite the request and shared a photo of the drop-off, which the workshop could forward.
