# How much extra is a backrest and armrests with the seat cushion?

*Start with the seat price. Multiply by 1.8. That is the whole set, near enough.*

Also asked as: How much for the back cushion and arm pillows?; Is the back the same price as the seat?

> **The quick answer:** A full set with one back cushion and two armrests costs about 1.8 times the seat cushion alone, the workshop's rule of thumb. Real quotes landed between 1.5 and 1.9 times the seat. A single matching backrest added about 30% on one banquette. You can order the seat only, and it costs less. Sets come with small gifts.

## Key facts

- A full set costs about the seat price x 1.8, the workshop's rule of thumb.
- A full set means one back cushion and two armrests.
- Real seat-plus-back-and-arm quotes came to about 1.5 to 1.9 times the seat alone.
- A matching backrest alone added about 30% to one banquette cushion.
- Seat-only orders are possible and cost less.
- Small gifts are included with sets.

## Seat, seat and back, full set

| What you order | Pieces | Price against the seat alone |
|---|---|---|
| Seat only | 1 seat cushion | 1x, the base |
| Seat and matching backrest | 1 seat, 1 back cushion | About 1.3x on one banquette |
| Full set | 1 seat, 1 back cushion, 2 armrests | About 1.8x, the rule of thumb |

## Why the first number looked small

A low first quote is usually a seat-only quote. Nothing was hidden. It priced what was asked for.

When backrests join the order, the total moves. One nook order rose by about half once backrests were added. So compare like with like: seat against seat, set against set. The [floor cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/floor-cushions/) and [backrest cushions](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/backrest-cushions/) pages show each piece on its own.

The seat alone is a real option. It costs less, and some rooms need nothing more. A floor cushion against a wall already has a back.

## Real quotes, as ratios

| Seat cushion | Pieces added | Set against seat alone |
|---|---|---|
| 24 x 24 in (61 x 61 cm) | Back cushion, 2 armrests | 1.8x |
| 4 x 4 ft (122 x 122 cm) | Backrest, armrests | About 1.6x |
| 79 x 35 in (200 x 90 cm) | Back, bolsters | About 1.6x |
| 78 x 27 in (198 x 69 cm) banquette | Matching backrest only | About 1.3x |
| Two kitchen-bench seats, about 56 x 27 in (142 x 69 cm) each | Backrests and armrests on both | About 1.9x |
| 53 x 75 in (135 x 190 cm) | Backrests | About 1.5x |

## Decide the back before you price it

Look at what the back will lean on. A wall, a window frame, nothing at all. Then look at the arms: do you want [armrests](https://cushionguide.com/glossary/#armrest-bolster), or does the room already hold you in?

The [back cushion height Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/back-cushion-height-sizing/) helps with the first question. The [quote Pattern](https://cushionguide.com/guides/custom-cushion-quote-what-to-send/) lists what to send with the request. What will your back rest against?

A seat is a floor you can sit on.
A back is a wall you can lean on.
Price the one you need.

> **Tailor's margin:** Compare cushion quotes piece for piece: a seat-only price always looks low next to a set with one back cushion and two armrests.

> A full cushion set with one back cushion and two armrests costs about 1.8 times the seat cushion alone.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Why did my price go up so much from the first quote?

**The workshop's answer:** The first quote was for the seat cushion alone. Once a backrest and armrests are added, the price rises; one nook order grew by about half when backrests joined it.

**A common question:** Can I buy only the seat cushion, without the backrest and armrests?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes, and it costs less. A 4 x 4 ft (122 x 122 cm) cushion came to about 1.6 times its seat-only price with a backrest and armrests, and a lower offer the workshop made covered the cushion only, without back and arms.

**A common question:** How much extra are the back cushion and the armrests?

**The workshop's answer:** Multiply the seat cushion price by 1.8 for a full set with one back cushion and two armrests. A 24 x 24 in (61 x 61 cm) seat priced that way also came with small gifts.

**A common question:** What's the difference between the seat alone and a full set with a backrest?

**The workshop's answer:** On a 78 x 27 in (198 x 69 cm) banquette, a matching backrest added about 30%. Two kitchen-bench cushions came to nearly twice the seat-only price as full sets with backrests and armrests.

**A common question:** Why does a tufted cushion cost more than a plain one?

**The workshop's answer:** Tufting is done fully by hand, so a tufted cushion typically costs about a third to a half more than the same size in plain foam. A non-tufted foam cushion is the cheaper option.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Why is a handmade cushion set priced above a mass-market one?

Each piece is made to order with dense filling, double stitching and express shipping. Matching a much cheaper quote would mean sponge-mix filling, single stitching, lower-grade fabric and slow cargo, which the workshop doesn't do.

### How is a daybed or twin-size floor mattress cushion priced?

By size. Twin XL (38 x 80 in) and larger sizes are quoted from your measurements, and a double came to roughly twice a twin. Ask for the current processing and delivery times in writing with the quote.

### Can the floor sofa's metal support bars be bought on their own?

Yes, as a set of 4 only: one bar per side and two for the back, each 20 in (51 cm) high. They ship on their own and can be added to a covers-only order.
