# Can you make a cushion with one angled end, for a nook or under the stairs?

*One slanted end turns a rectangle into a trapezoid, and a trapezoid is ordered differently. Here is the list worth taping to the tape measure.*

Also asked as: Narrower at the back and wider at the front; One end is a rectangle, the other a sharp triangle

> **The quick answer:** An angled window seat cushion is a trapezoid, and it is made exactly to your drawing through the separate custom-shape listing. Choose the size range by your longest edge and deepest depth, then upload a paper drawing showing the angle with all four sides measured, plus the thickness and fabric code. Daylight photos of the seat help.

## Key facts

- A seat narrower at the back than the front is a trapezoid.
- Angled-end cushions are ordered on the trapezoid (custom-shape) listing, not the rectangle one.
- The size range is chosen by the longest edge and the deepest depth.
- The drawing needs every side measured: all four sides for a trapezoid.
- The cushion is cut exactly to the drawing.
- The workshop checks whether a seat that looks like a trapezoid in a photo is really a rectangle seen at an angle.
- Your own fabric can be supplied.

## Angled-end checklist, before you upload

- ✓ Measure the front edge, the back edge and both ends, and write all four on a paper drawing.
- ✓ Mark which end is angled; one square end and one slanted end is still a trapezoid.
- ✓ Measure the depth at its deepest point, straight out from the back.
- ✓ On the custom-shape listing, pick the size range by the longest edge and that deepest depth.
- ✓ Add the thickness and fabric code to the note with the drawing.
- ✓ Take photos of the seat in daylight if you want help matching colors.

## What stalls an angled order

- ✗ Ordering an angled seat on the rectangle listing; trapezoids have their own.
- ✗ Sending only a length and a depth; a trapezoid needs all four sides.
- ✗ Judging the shape from a photo taken at an angle; a rectangle can look like a trapezoid.

## Why one slanted end changes the order

A rectangle is two numbers. Tilt one end and it becomes a trapezoid: four sides plus a depth. That is why angled cushions go through the separate [trapezoid cushion](https://cushionguide.com/cushions/trapezoid-cushions/) listing, with the size range set by your longest edge and your deepest depth.

Angles are just lengths in disguise. Measure all four sides and the slant takes care of itself; the workshop reads the slanted edge as a check against the others. The [trapezoid cushion calculator](https://cushionguide.com/studio/trapezoid-cushion-calculator/) runs the same check before you send anything.

Understairs benches are the classic case, and the [understairs and stair landing Concept Sketch](https://cushionguide.com/concepts/understairs-and-stair-landing-bench-cushions/) shows several. Which end of your seat is the slanted one, partner?

## A closet nook in four numbers

A buyer in the US sent the workshop a closet nook with one angled end: 79 in (201 cm) along the long side, 59 in (150 cm) along the short side, 24 in (61 cm) deep. With every side on the drawing, the workshop quoted the cushion as drawn and priced a three-section shaped set alongside it. The buyer also heard that their own fabric could be used.

> **Tailor's margin:** An angled window seat cushion needs all four sides on the drawing, plus the depth at its deepest point; two numbers only describe a rectangle.

## Buyer questions

**A common question:** Can you make a cushion with an angled end, say for under the stairs or a slanted window bay?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send the size and a paper drawing that shows the angle, and the workshop copies the exact shape. It also checks whether a bay that looks like a trapezoid in a photo is really a rectangle seen from an angle.

**A common question:** Can you make an odd-shaped nook cushion with one angled end?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send a drawing with every side measured, all four for a trapezoid. A closet-nook cushion 79 in on the long side, 59 in on the short side and 24 in deep was quoted that way, along with a three-section shaped set. You can supply your own fabric.

**A common question:** Could my window seat cushion have angled ends instead of square ones?

**The workshop's answer:** Yes. Send measurements of every side and photos of the seat, taken in daylight if you want help matching colors. One angled window seat was quoted with 7 to 9 days of production.

**A common question:** My window seat is narrower at the back than the front. How do I order it?

**The workshop's answer:** That shape is a trapezoid, ordered through the separate custom-shape listing. Pick the size range by your longest edge and deepest depth, upload a drawing with every edge measured in the personalization step, and add the thickness and fabric code. The cushion is made exactly to that drawing.

**A common question:** How should I label the sides on my trapezoid drawing?

**The workshop's answer:** Write a length on every edge using letters A to D, plus E and F for clipped corners, and add the depth and thickness. Pick the nearest size range; the workshop checks the geometry and sends a full list to confirm before cutting.

## Questions buyers ask next

### Does the slanted edge itself need measuring?

Yes, measure it, but it works as a check. The long edge, the short edge, the depth and the straight end fix the slant, so if your slanted edge doesn't match what those numbers predict, another measurement is off.

### Can an angled seat with a step in it be made too?

Yes. Mark every step on the drawing and check that the edges add up. Then pick Length as the longest edge and Depth as the depth from it, upload the drawing and give the thickness.

### Is a long angled seat better as one cushion or several?

One piece is often possible, but it costs more and fits less reliably. For long, stepped or wrap-around seats, and trapezoids of about 79 in (200 cm) and up, the workshop recommends sections that sit neater and are easier to wash.
